Frayed Wire Wrap Up

Frayed Wire went great! I had so much fun, even though I was running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off (I was producing the event…). It’s an amazing experience, to be in a room FULL of technologists who are also artists and vice versa.

We had a *great* set of speakers and workshops, and people had a lot of fun making stuff out of the items from Junque Exchange in the open lab, and there was a very well attended discussion of how to incubate art/technology in the Pacific Northwest. There were a lot of volunteers to whom I am very, very grateful! Thanks Dorkbot crew, 911 Media Arts center, Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, and Ignition NW, and everyone else who helped out!

Best Wearable Accessory Contest with LilyPad Prize

Leah Beuchley donated a Lilypad Arduino kit to FrayedWire, which we will be using as prize for best wearable accessory!

You’ll have lots of chances between the workshops and the the open lab space to come up with something fabulous. Also, feel free to bring junque materials for the open lab space to use in your making.

I recruited folks from a few local arts organizations onto the program committee: Dorkbot, 911 Media Arts Center, Youngstown, Artist Trust, BRINC. It’s important to aggregate diverse voices from the community when developing the content of this event. If you know any of these folks feel free to give them your feedback about what you would like to see happen!

We locked in the date with Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, so the event will occur on July 11th, during the People Doing Strange Things with Electricity art exhibit. We’ll spend all day at Youngstown, and then have an evening reception at 911 Media Arts Center.
